What is Wrestling Gear?

Wrestling gear is the general term used to describe the equipment worn by wrestlers. Like other fighting gear, wrestling gear includes headgear, wrestling shoes, singlets, knee pads, wrist bands, and an assortment of other accessories.

What Gear Does a Wrestler Need?

Let’s start with the basics: A wrestling singlet and shoes.

All that USA Wrestling requires is a singlet, but I would recommend buying shoes designed specifically for wrestling. They aren’t very expensive and they will last for years.

The next recommendation would be wrestling headgear, but if you are on a tight budget, make sure you at least get some sort of mouthguard. Mouthguards can prevent chipped teeth and concussions (which are common in wrestling).

What Gear is Needed For High School Wrestling?

The NCAA requires that wrestlers wear a minimum of shoes, shorts, a T-shirt with the sleeves cut off, headgear with ear guards, and a mouthpiece.

What is The Difference Between Open and Closed Finger Wrestling Shoes?

Open finger shoes give you more grip on the mat, but they also allow for more flexibility in the feet. Closed finger shoes (or boots) will keep your feet from moving around in the shoe, but the lack of flexibility will make it more difficult to do certain moves.

What Wrestling Gear Should Be in a Bag?

A wrestler should have a singlet, wrestling shoes, headgear (if you want it), a mouthguard (or some sort of protection for your teeth), and a sweat-wicking shirt underneath your singlet.

What Do Wrestlers Wear Under Their Trunks?

Wrestlers wear compression shorts and a jockstrap with their singlet, but you can do whatever suits you best. I wear spandex shorts and a jockstrap under my singlet, but some guys prefer to go commando.

Which Brands Are Most Recommended For Wrestling Equipment?

In terms of wrestling shoes, Adidas, Asics, Nike, and Under Armour are recommended.

In terms of singlets, Nike, Adidas, Asics, and Under Armour are the 4 main brands.

In terms of headgear, Cliff Keen, Brute Force, and Adidas are the 3 most popular brands.

In terms of mouthguards, Shock Doctor and Pro Impact are the 2 most popular brands.
